This course will describe the Internet of Things (IoT) market, the technology used to build these kinds of devices, how they communicate and store data, and the types of distributed systems needed to support them. Divided into multiple modules, we will learn by doing. We will start with simple examples and integrate the techniques we know into a class project in which we design and build an IoT system. Students will be paired with Software Engineering/Computer Science/Computer Engineering students from Yasar University to work on an IoT project during the Spring semester session. We will establish student exchanges before traveling to visit Yasar University so that socially there is a connection between the students from the United States and Turkey. The students will work on a hands-on IoT project, and Yasar University and PSU faculty will present lectures and labs covering the required learning materials. At the end of the visit, the combined teams will perform a professional project presentation on their solution, learning experience, and work effort.
