As institutions around the world determine program costs at different times, it is difficult for Education Abroad to provide actual cost information until shortly before the beginning of a program. You are encouraged to consult this document on a regular basis as it is frequently updated with the most current cost information and billing information available.
All students are assessed the standard University Park tuition and technology fee. Non-Pennsylvania residents participating on this program will also be credited an amount in the "Beginning Balance" of their semester bills which, when subtracted from the Non-Pennsylvania tuition rate, reflects a net tuition equal to the established Pennsylvania resident tuition rate. Please note that a second semester discount will be awarded for academic year participants.
The Education Abroad Program Fee includes:
On-site orientation and support
Some field trips
This budget is based on students living in apartment style housing and providing their own meals. Students who choose to live in a dormitory or a homestay may incur additional fees from IES, but those fees include some meals.
As a Penn State student you will automatically be awarded a $2,000 Public School Grant from IES. IES has created this award to make their programs affordable to you. This award has already been calculated into the budget sheet.
Student Visa and Residence Permit Cost
The visa processing fee is approximately $60 and is updated by consulates every two months to adjust for inflation and exchange rate. Students should anticipate paying an additional $195 for the Permesso di Siorggiorno (Residence Permit) upon arrival in Italy. Students using a visa processor may be subject to additional processing fees.
The actual cost of the visa will vary depending on the type of visa required and the student’s country of citizenship. The Consulate General of the host country reserves the right to change their visa fees without prior notice. For exact pricing, students should contact the nearest Italian Embassy or Consulate.
Program Withdraw/Refund Policy
Regardless of the reason and effective date of withdrawal, it is the responsibility of students to immediately notify Education Abroad in writing and to understand the implications of their withdrawal actions.
The Education Abroad Administrative fee will be assessed to students' bursar bill regardless of the reason and effective date of withdrawal.
In certain cases, partial program expenses may be refundable but only to extent that Education Abroad can recover expenses incurred on behalf of the student.
Any adjustment of tuition charges will be made according to the Tuition Adjustment Schedule as determined by the Office of the Bursar.
Students should also consult IES withdrawal and refund policies.
The cost for meals will vary depending on the type of housing chosen by the student. This budget is based on students living in apartments and providing all of their own meals. Students living in dormitories and homestays will pay less for meals because some meals are included in the housing fee (dormitories include up to 21 meals per week, homestays included 10 meals per week).
