Established in 1998, Monash Malaysia is the third-largest campus of Australia's largest university and the first foreign university campus in Malaysia that operates in partnership with the Sunway Education Group. A self-accrediting university, Monash Malaysia offers a distinctly international and culturally rich environment with approximately 8,400 students from 78 different countries. Students are taught by highly qualified academic staff from across the world and the same rigorous standards are applied at the campus as at other Monash campuses. Students can also take advantage of many clubs and societies that organize exciting events, be it flea markets and competitions or cultural and music festivals. Monash University Malaysia is in a unique position to offer the very best in higher education that is possible within Malaysia and the region.
Penn State students studying on this exchange program will have access to a vast array of courses. While course syllabi are similar across all Monash campuses, students will find that each Monash campus also offers localized courses providing a unique exchange experience at these specific campuses. Popular localized units that are offered at Monash Malaysia include, for example, the Malaysian Studies, Contemporary Feminisms in Asia as well as Genders, sexualities, and religions in Southeast Asia from the School of Arts and Social Sciences. Other interesting units include Environmental Science: A Southeast Asian Perspective offered at the School of Science as well as Leadership in Asia, Business in Asia and Islamic Business offered at the School of Business. For language enthusiasts, the Malay Language is a non-credit earning course, ideal for those who wish to learn the local language during their exchange in Malaysia.
