- 18 years of age or above
- Good academic and disciplinary standing at Penn State
- 2.75 cumulative GPA or better at the time of application review
- Sophomore standing or above at the start of the program
Program Description
Sogang University was established by the Society of Jesus in the 1940s to provide an education based on Catholic belief and inspired by the Jesuit educational philosophy, in conformity with the Korean tradition of education. The University welcomes students of all backgrounds. Although a small institution with about 7,500 undergraduates, it is considered to be one of the top schools in South Korea. The campus is in a central location easily accessible by public transportation. The immediate neighborhood has many small Korean restaurants, shopping, movies, cafes, etc. The campus is small, so everything is within easy access. This institution offers a large selection of courses, with strengths in engineering, business, and natural sciences.
Sogang University aims to educate citizens with outstanding leadership abilities, who can contribute to the society and nation with the spirit of devotion, sense of responsibility, mature and integrated characters. Also educate true cosmopolitans who can contribute to the national prosperity and world peace by understanding the current changes of the world at all times, and respond to the changes with critical judgments.
This exchange program is open to all students and all majors as Sogang University offers a variety of courses in English. Exchange students may also take Korean language courses offered by the Korean Language Education Center.

Please note that the Korean academic calendar runs from spring through fall, which is opposite of the Penn State academic calendar. In addition, their spring semester starts much later and ends later than the normal Penn State spring semester.

Location
Seoul, the capital of South Korea, is a huge metropolis where modern skyscrapers, high-tech subways, and pop culture meet Buddhist temples, palaces, and street markets. Education Abroad in Countries with a Penn State Restricted Travel Designation
In order to comply with Penn State’s International Travel Policy, students interested in studying abroad in countries that Penn State has designated as “restricted” for travel, a petition for a waiver must be submitted. Once a petition is complete, and if the student is approved for study on the program in question, the student may be asked to meet with the Director of Education Abroad and the petition will be reviewed by the Penn State International Restricted Travel Committee (IRTC). The necessary petition will be included in the online application process for this program.
