ENGR 199 helps facilitate students’ adjustment to the high expectations, demanding workload, increased academic liberties, and other aspects of the transition to college life and introduces them to their responsibilities as members of both the College of Engineering and the University community.
This First-Year Engagement Program is designed to enhance student engagement in co-curricular activities, acquaint them with student resources available at Penn State, and introduce globally engaged learning with embedded travel to Santiago, Chile during spring break. Prior to the international engagement experience, students will complete a series of intercultural learning modules. While abroad, students will engage in engineering design workshops with students at Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (USM), learn about Chile’s Civil Rights Movement, visit museums, and engage in various culturally relevant site visits to enhance global competencies.
