The focus of the trip will be on Design Thinking. Design thinking is an interdisciplinary method for solving problems. It uses a human-centered approach to innovation to connect the needs of the customer, the possibilities of technology, and the requirements for business success.
In this course students will learn how to leverage fundamental design thinking principles to perform project discovery analysis, customer requirements gathering and design development. They will explore what it is like to start and grow a new technology based company and the challenges typically faced by founders of companies from an international lens. It will cover how to leverage fundamental design thinking principles and innovative problem-solving tools needed to address business challenges to build impactful products and solutions. Topics will include balancing limited resources, changing direction quickly, building a coherent team, managing intellectual property, obtaining user project feedback, and creating new markets.
Hof University students and Penn State students will collaborate on an interdisciplinary project to develop a mobile solution utilizing prototyping software like proto.io that is integrated with an AI based backend. The project will utilize design thinking processing to amplify human centered and empathic values or benefits. For example, it could review human written samples for evaluation and feedback showing metrics. Cohort teams will perform a final presentation covering their project design and development.
