CRIM 425 is a 3-credit class that focuses on the theoretical explanations for, the nature of, and the legal and law enforcement responses to organized crime. The course is taught online (asynchronously) and includes a mandatory spring break trip to Curaçao, a Caribbean island located a short distance from Aruba and Venezuela.
In Curaçao, students will learn about organized criminal activities in the Caribbean from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Consulate, Dutch Royal Marechaussee, and Curaçao Coast Guard, Customs, and police officials. Students from all majors are welcome to enroll, and there are no prerequisites.
Students will have plenty of free time to explore the cultural treasures of Curaçao. Curaçao enjoys constant 80° temperatures, sunny days, and breezy nights.

During the embedded travel component, housing will consist of hotel/hostel overnight accommodations.
The process for enrolling in an embedded course varies according to the instructor and/or department. The program leader has indicated that in order to enroll in the course and travel component, students must complete an online application and commitment form.
