Eligibility
- 18 years of age or above
- Good academic and disciplinary standing at Penn State
- 2.75 cumulative GPA or better at the time of application. For Universidad Torcuato di Tella (UTDT) courses, a 3.2 cumulative GPA or better is required.
- Sophomore standing or above at the start of the program
- 5 semesters of college-level Spanish language or equivalent
- Enrolled in a Spanish course within the year prior to the program start date
Program Description
Specially designed for students with advanced Spanish language proficiency, our program allows you to build on your language skills as you immerse yourself in the culture of Argentina. In addition to advanced language study at our Buenos Aires Center, you choose from a variety of Spanish-taught IES Abroad area studies courses.
You can enroll in courses at local universities, including the Universidad Torcuato di Tella, Universidad de Buenos Aires, and the Pontifica Universidad Católica Argentina, where you’ll experience the Argentine educational system first-hand and enjoy access to local student activities

Location
Buenos Aires is the capital and largest city of Argentina. The city is located on the western shore of the estuary of the Río de la Plata, on the South American continent's southeastern coast. The Greater Buenos Aires conurbation, which also includes several Buenos Aires Province districts, constitutes the fourth-most populous metropolitan area in the Americas, with a population of around 14 million.
Buenos Aires is a top tourist destination, and is known for its preserved Eclectic European architecture and rich cultural life, including the art of tango. Buenos Aires is a multicultural city, being home to multiple ethnic and religious groups. Several languages are spoken in the city in addition to Spanish, contributing to its culture and the dialect spoken in the city and in some other parts of the country.
Education Abroad in Countries with a Penn State Restricted Travel Designation
In order to comply with Penn State’s International Travel Policy, students interested in studying abroad in countries that Penn State has designated as “restricted” for travel, a petition for a waiver must be submitted. Once a petition is complete, and if the student is approved for study on the program in question, the student may be asked to meet with the Director of Education Abroad and the petition will be reviewed by the Penn State International Restricted Travel Committee (IRTC). The necessary petition will be included in the online application process for this program.
