Program Description
This program is a direct enrollment exchange program that is available for the spring semester or the full academic year. Students take all of their coursework directly at the Technion Institute of Technology and on-site support is provided by Technion International. The semester study abroad program in engineering and science is designed to give students not only a unique academic experience, but also a chance to get to know Israel. Technion International courses are given at second-, third- and fourth-year undergraduate levels. Some courses include off-campus activities as well as business and industry site visits. Areas of engineering include: basic engineering and science, civil and environmental engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, and related fields. Additional academic courses are offered in entrepreneurship and innovation, business, and history.
There are also two optional course offerings: an introductory Ulpan or an internship. Students are not able to complete both optional course offerings due to time conflicts, but students can choose one or the other. Please note that both courses come at an additional cost.
Optional Introductory Ulpan
Students can enroll in an optional introductory Ulpan, intensive Hebrew study program at Technion before the regular semester program. The course will provide knowledge of the Hebrew alphabet, vocabulary, and basic language and grammar structures. Students will acquire elementary reading, writing, and communication skills to use during their visit. The Ulpan does have an additional cost, so is not required, but is strongly encouraged.
Optional Internship
Students have the option to add a Professional Internship in a high-tech company or start-up, or a Research Internship at a Technion Laboratory in different faculties to work on real-life scientific challenges. Internships are awarded up to 3 academic credits and completed prior to the semester start date. Internships are optional, as they come at an additional cost. If students are interested in completing an internship, it is encouraged that they begin working with Technion during the application process to secure an internship placement.
Please note U.S. citizens who study in Israel will be required to travel to the Consulate General of Israel in New York City to apply for a visa in-person prior to the start of the program and should budget for travel costs accordingly.

Location
Haifa is Israel's third largest city and extends from the Mediterranean Sea up the north slope of Mount Carmel. A busy international port city, Haifa is known for its fast-growing high-tech industry and ethnic and religious diversity. World center of the Bahá'í faith, Haifa’s cultural tapestry also includes Jewish, Christian, and Muslim communities and the neighboring Druze villages. The city’s most iconic sites are the immaculately landscaped terraces of the Bahá'í Gardens and, at their heart, the gold-domed Shrine of the Báb. At the foot of the gardens lies the German Colony, with shops, galleries and restaurants in 19th-century buildings. Residents enjoy concerts, theater, museums, clubs, cafés, beaches, and easy access to the Sea of Galilee, Golan Heights, Nazareth, Tel Aviv, and Jerusalem.
