Materials that are not returned by March may not be processed in a timely manner, which could negatively affect visa processing, course selections, or requests to live in campus housing.

 - This document contains essential information regarding housing, visa documents, and health insurance. Please read this carefully and contact us if you have any questions.

Application for Visa Document

Sample Financial Guarantee Guide

      • Samples ONLY of three kinds of financial statements.
      • You must submit your own financial statements - please DO NOT fill in the examples.
      • Financial statements can come from the student's bank, parents' bank, or another type of institution guaranteeing payment.
      • A sample Parental Support Letter is also included in case funds come from parents' account.

Undergraduate Nondegree Enrollment Form

      • Please do not submit this form online, return to Jessica.

Intent to Live in On-Campus Housing

      • Applicants planning to request University housing must create a Friends of Penn State Account (FPS) at https://fps.psu.edu. You will need to remember your FPS ID and password.
      • If you are going to live on campus, the Penn State Housing Office will send you an email about your residence hall application.

Evidence of English Proficiency

      • Written verification is required from the exchange / study abroad coordinator that the student has sufficient English proficiency to study in college-level course work at Penn State. Please provide either:
        • Documentation of a TOEFL (550 paper or 80 iBT) or IELTS 6.5;
        • OR a letter from your coordinator stating that you have demonstrated proficiency in English.

Native speakers of English and students who have received a bachelor's degree or graduate degree from Australia, Belize, British Caribbean and British  West Indies, Canada (except Quebec), England, Guyana, Republic of Ireland, Liberia, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Scotland, the United States, and Wales do not need to provide verification of English proficiency.


    Course Registration at Penn State

    It is possible that not all of your choices will be available. If you MUST take a certain course to graduate, please think carefully before coming to Penn State. We cannot guarantee enrollment in any courses so it is very important that you have some flexibility.

    Information about Selecting Courses

    Advanced Course Registration Form

        • Select the courses you wish to take while at Penn State.
        • The instructions for completing this form are in the "Information about selecting courses" link above.

    Registration Worksheet

        • This can be used as a guide when selecting courses to be sure that your choices do not meet at the same time.
        • You are not required to use this sheet nor do you need to return it with your requests.

    Departments with Course Restrictions:

      • College of Arts & Architecture
      • College of Communications
      • Department of Kinesiology
      • School of Nursing
      • Department of Psychology - NO GRADUATE LEVEL COURSES will be approved
      • College of Business - Courses for Exchange Business Students
        **Please review the list above very carefully and only select courses from this list.

    For additional information on restrictions, please read "Information about selecting courses" from above.


    A complete application must include the following information:

        • Application for Visa Document form
        • Financial Guarantee Letter
        • Undergraduate Non-degree Enrollment Application
        • Intent to Live in On-Campus form (if living on campus)
        • Evidence of English Proficiency
        • Advanced Course Registration form
        • Academic Record/transcript (unofficial is acceptable, but must include a grade scale or key)

    Jessica will forward the appropriate materials to Penn State University offices and issue the DS-2019 immigration document which will be mailed to the exchange coordinator at your university (that will be the only verification of acceptance).
